Solomon Islands government expects to get additional revenue from the fisheries sector, for the remaining months of 2004 and for 2005.
This follows the recent signing of an agreement between the Solomon Islands Government and the Japanese Tuna Association.
The Ministry of Fisheries says under the agreement, the government will collect additional revenue which is over and above revenue due under the normal bilateral fisheries access arrangements.
Such deals are currently held with Korea, Taiwan, the Federated States of Micronesia arrangement and the US multilateral Fisheries Treaty.
Minister of Fisheries, Paul Maenu'u, told the Solomon islands Broadcasting Corporation that he sees the deal as part of his department's efforts towards revitalizing the fisheries sector.
