A police officer from the Cook Islands is in Fiji to undergo training at the Pacific TransNational Crime Co-ordinating Centre.
The Cook Islands police commissioner, Pira Wichman, says the attachment is to ensure that information that's collected and could be of significance, is able to be passed on and distributed.
He says the senior sergeant is spending two weeks attending a workshop and will then spend a month on attachment at the centre.
Mr Wichman says increased co-operation is a key element in a strategy endorsed by the region's police chiefs.
"Right now, we've got one of our intel officers over in Fiji, with others, that is going through to make sure that we speak the same language, we have the same procedures, we have the same process. And, we have the same understanding of the issues, whether it be identity crime, drug smuggling, pornography, so that when we talk to each other, we are on the same level and we all give priority to them uniformly."
