Name supression lifted in Pitcairn trial

7:47 pm on 29 September 2004

Name suppression for the defendents in the sex abuse trials on Pitcairn Island has been lifted, revealing that the Mayor, Steve Christian and son Randy are among the accused.

Another father and son duo, Len and Dave Brown, are also defendants.

7 men on Pitcairn Island face a total of 55 charges, including rape, indecent assault and gross indecency.

Two unmarried men in their 40s - Dennis Christian and Terry Young - are the 5th and 6th defendents, with another prominent member of the community, Jay Warren understood to be facing the most minor allegation.

The trials kick off tomorrow after an eleventh hour application to have the trials adjourned was thrown out.
