The lawyer for a candidate in American Samoa's governor's race has suggested that federal government observers be called in to monitor the November 2nd general election in the territory.

Lawyer Robert Maez, who represents Afoa Moega Lutu, says a potential conflict of interest exists during the election because the chief election officer and other election officials have been appointed by Governor Togiola Tulafono, who is also a candidate for the Governorship

Mr Maez says the chief election officer post should be elected.

He also claims that an Election Office employee, actively campainging for Togiola is showing favoritism towards the governor.
