Authorities in French Polynesia have confirmed that no-one has been hurt after a large fire damaged ten homes in the suburbs of the capital, Papeete.
A spokesman for the president's office, Claude Marere, says the fire started in the garden of a house, and spread quickly to nearby homes in the Mission area of the city.
Mr Marere says two hundred children were evacuated from a creche at just after three o'clock yesterday afternoon New Zealand time.
Five bands of firefighters and the president, Oscar Temaru, were on the scene almost immediately.
