Tonga democracy campaigners holds workshop

7:37 am on 11 September 2004

It's reported that Tonga's Human Rights and Democracy Movement has held a one day educational and awareness workshop.

The Tonga Broadcasting Corporation reports the theme of the workshop at the Ecumenical Centre at Vaololoa was Good Governance.

The coordinator of the workshop, Reverend Simote Vea says it was the third such workshop he's conducted this year.

The first session heard from Lopeti Senituli on an alternative model constitution.

Mr Senituli's defended the workshop, which comes after with the dismissal of three cabinet ministers.

The Tonga Broadcasting Corporation reports Mr Senituli's model would see the current Privy council abolished, whilst thirty members of parliament would be elected by the public.
