The deputy Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum says assistance should start flowing to Nauru by the end of next month.

Iosefa Maiava and five other officials from the Forum visited Nauru last week to identify key problem areas.

Mr Maiava says they will now develop a proposal for assistance which will be discussed with the Nauru goverment next week before the Secretary General presents it to the rest of the Forum for endorsement.

He says the proposal will concentrate on helping the government cope with the current financial situation.

"We are going to propose that assistance be focused on providing the sort of support that the government needs in its efforts primarily its effort to reform the governemnt and the economy to enable it to manage the situation."
