Polling continues in Cooks general election

1:28 pm on 8 September 2004

People are continuing to cast their votes for the general elections in the Cook Islands this afternoon.

Election officials say they are expecting a high turnout with some constituencies predicting there will be 90 percent plus of eligible voters turn up.

Sandhana Sen, a member of an observer team from the University of the South Pacific, says she will be visiting all the polling booths on Rarotonga.

And, she says two other observers will be on Atiu and Aitutaki.

"We'll be looking at how the election process so far as the administration of it has been carried out by the election office, the returning officers, whether the process is free and fair, if there's any intimidation, any cases of bribery or pressure from politicians."
