Tributes continue to flow for Vijay Singh

There are calls in Fiji for Vijay Singh to be made the country's ambassador to the world.

This follows the achievement of the once-impoverished caddy at the Nadi Airport Golf Club in becoming the world's top ranking golfer after unseating Tiger Woods.

Fiji's prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, has sent a message of congratulations on behalf of the government and all the 850-thousand people of the country.

Mr Qarase said Singh's outstanding and exceptional achievement in reaching the pinnacle of golf has brought glory and fame to him, his family and all of Fiji.

Mr Qarase says in his many achievement and ultimate victory, Singh has brilliantly shown that with commitment, hard work and perseverance, there can be no limit to one's accomplishment and success.

The opposition leader, Mick Beddoes says Vijay Singh's journey from Nadi to becoming the world's number 1 golfer is a phenomenal achievement.

An elated chief executive of the Fiji Visitors Bureau, Bill Gavoka, says everywhere Vijay Singh goes, he will be selling Fiji as a tourist destination.
