2:07 pm on 30 August 2004

The Chief Ombudsman in Papua New Guinea,Ila Geno, says the Commission has to be given powers to prosecute corrupt leaders.

Speaking at the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry's meeting, Mr Geno suggested the law should be amended to give the Commission the ability to lay criminal charges.

But, the Post Courier reports that Mr Geno said the biggest hurdle the commission faced was convincing parliament to approve such powers.
