Another Fiji Senator's trial on court related charges resumes in September

The trial of another Fiji government senator on coup related charges will resume next month.

Radio Legend that Senator Apisai Tora, who spearheaded the overthrow of the Chaudhry government, and 13 villagers will appear in the Nadi magistrate's court on charges of unlawful assembly.

The charges relate to the men seizing an army checkpoint near Nadi at the height of the Speight coup and erecting a roadblock.

Their actions were aimed at putting pressure on the Great Council of Chiefs to appoint Vuda high chief Ratu Josefa Iloilo as the new president to succeed Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.
