Police in Solomon Islands have regained control of the country's main prison after a riot.
Local and international police in the capital Honiara took into custody more than a hundred prisoners who had broken out of their cells yesterday and seized parts of Rove prison.
The Solomon Islands Prison Service says the inmates occupied sections of the compound, throwing rocks at police and damaging prison infrastructure.
The New Zealand foreign minister, Phil Goff, says the incident was serious.
"Nobody has been injured in this incident. The matter has been talked out. A petition is being presented to the Minister of Police calling for reconciliation and amnesty and pardons and the rescinding of the Assistance Mission's immunity in Solomon Islands. Clearly that is not going to happen."
