The Fiji government has been accused of bullying tactics following reports that the Prime Minister wants to rein in the president.
Laisenia Qarase has told Radio Legend that he wants to enact law changes that would force President Iloilo to act on the advice of cabinet.
The Labour Party's legal advisor, Senator Anand Singh, says there's clearly a rift between the Prime Minister and the president.
"The government cannot tolerate people who do not necesesarily agree with it. It is taking on very strong-armed tactics when it comes to dealing with its own people. And certainly that needs to change if it wants to continue to have all the parties coming together with the intent of having some kind of national reconciliation and rebuilding."
President Iloilo has rejected a Government request for a commission of inquiry to investigate the army commander, Commodore Bainimarama.
The government called for an inquiry to investigate allegations that the commander plotted to overthrow the government if his term in office was not renewed.
