Unicef highlights school fee problems in PNG

The Unicef head in Papua New Guinea has called for what he calls the immoral policy of charging school fees to be dropped.

Dr Isiye Ndombi says providing basic education to all children is virtually the only way out of poverty for any country.

He says unless education is accessible to all the result is increasing disparity between those who can afford and those who cannot.

According to the National newspaper, he said that by keeping children out of schools, PNG is ensuring that poverty is regenerated in successive generations.
