Samoa government tightens control of permanent residence permits

10:53 am on 9 July 2004

The Samoa government has tightened control over the number of foreigners granted permanent residence status in Samoa by establishing an annual quota.

New provisions in the Immigration Act 2004 require Cabinet to set the number of permanent resident permits granted each year.

This year 10 permits will be granted.

Two permits are reserved for applicants from overseas to boost the Government's attempts to attract new business and investment.

The other eight places have been reserved for applicants within the country.

Applicants for permits pay a non-refundable fee of $2 000.
