Air Vanuatu to consider an additional expansion in six to 12 months

Air Vanuatu, which added a number of additional international flights last week, may increase its services further later this year.

The airline's CEO, Jean Paul Virelala, says the key determinant is the availability of tourist accommodation.

Air Vanuatu has hired another 737 on a part time basis to provide an extra flight a week out of Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane as well as new flights from Honiara.

Mr Virelala says the new plane may become full time later this year as part of the normal progression for an airline which began by flying just 3 days a week 16 years ago.

"and then we went from one full time aircraft and then by a normal progression to one and a half and from there probably we looking in six to 12 months at a two full time aircraft operation"
