Papua New Guinea's opposition parties say notice of a motion of no confidence in the prime minister was not presented during yesterday's session of parliament as a gesture of respect for the swearing-in of the new Governor-General, Sir Paulius Matane.

The Post Courier newspaper quotes what it calls usually reliable opposition sources as saying the notice will be ready for today's session of parliament

The sources were not prepared to name their candidate as alternate prime minister who was chosen by an opposition caucus meeting yesterday afternoon.

The name of the candidate must be on the written notice submitted to the Clerk of Parliament and the Speaker.

It must also be signed by eleven members of parliament.
