Fiji Opposition leader demands answers over Asian's entry

Fiji's opposition leader, Mick Beddoes, is demanding answers to why the home affairs minister over-rode the decision of an immigration officer to deny entry to one of the six Asians arrested in last week's drug bust and allowed him into the country.

Radio Legend says the minister, Joketani Cokanasiga, admitted yesterday that he was not aware that Hon Keung Lam was refused entry because he was carrying multiple passports and a large sum of money.

The minister said he only reviewed Lam's file after the issue was highlighted in the media.

Mr Beddoes says the people of Fiji need to know why all the information was not provided to the minister before he allowed Lam's entry on appeal.

Mr Beddoes says had the drug bust not occurred, nothing would have been found out.

The opposition leader will raise urgent questions on the issue in parliament.
