The Prime Minister of Samoa told Parliament yesterday that food shortages in some villages can be blamed on their local leadership.
There have been reports of food shortages in parts of the country affected by Cyclone Heta inJanuary.
But Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi says people who planted taro back in January do not have food worries now.
In a parliamentary exchange with Opposition MP Tofilau Tauvaga, the Prime Minister says if villages are experiencing food problems that reflects badly on their chiefs, village mayors and their Member of Parliament.
He said last week that organising planting and inspection of crops is the responsibility of village mayors.
