Fiji Cabinet Minister has no recall of approving entry permit for alleged Asian drug producer

Fiji's minister for home affairs, Joketani Cokanasiga, says he cannot recall issuing an entry permit to one of the six Asians arrested in the 600-million US dollar drug raid in Suva last week.

A local newspaper reported today that Hon Keung Lam was first refused entry at Nadi Airport when he was found in possession of large sums of money and passports.

But the director of immigration, Joe Browne, says a month later he signed the visa approval after Lam's appeal to the minister was successful.

Mr Cokanasiga has told Radio Legend that he has to deal with a large number of appeals and cannot recall Lam's case.

The minister says if a person can convince him that he or she can enter Fiji for whatever reason, that's sufficient grounds for him to look at their applications sympathetically.

Mr Cokanasiga will now review Lam's case.
