Pacific nations urged to look at bright side of globalisation

10:39 am on 10 June 2004

The Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Greg Urwin, says Pacific nations must make the most of globalisation and not focus on the negatives.

Mr Urwin says globalisation is a reality, and the Pacific can't seal itself off.

But he says this doesn't mean Pacific countries have to turn their backs on their tradition and culture, or their traditional institutions of governance.

"To do so, would be to condemn, these kinds of adjustments that are required, to failure. But the process in general has to be accepted, has to be embraced and examined for its best advantages."
