American Samoan chiefs ask questions about missing funding for centennial day celebrations

Traditional leaders of American Samoa's Manu'a Island group say they have no knowledge of the seven hundred and ten thousand US dollars allocated by the Fono to fund the 2004 Manu'a Centennial Day celebration.

A local chief said the four county councils of Manu'a need an explanation about the whereabouts of the money because there are many of preparations and arrangements to be made.

Without any word from the government, the Manu'a county councils have launched their own fundraising activities.

Although the government has appointed a Centennial Committee to oversee preparations, there has been no word of how the roughly seven hundred thousand dollars will be spent or where the preparations for the event on July the 16th stand.
