Melanesian Church considers memorial for slain missionaries

10:31 am on 3 June 2004

In Solomon Islands, the Church of Melanesia is considering erecting a memorial on the Weather Coast of Guadalcanal to honour its seven murdered missionaries.

The seven missionaries had been killed by followers of Guadalcanal warlord Harold Keke.

The bodies of the missionaries were recently exhumed by forensic experts working with the Regional Assistance Mission in the country.

Two of Harold Keke's commanders have been charged with the murders of the seven.
