10:17 am on 27 May 2004

It's reported Tonga's king was to convene the assembly of the kingdom's lawmakers today.

The Tonga Broadcasting Corporation reports that King Taufa'ahau Tupou The Fourth was to convene the 104th session of the Legislative Assembly this morning.

It's the final year of the current term for the People and Nobles' representatives to the House.

The honourable Fotofili replaces Lord Ma'atu in the assembly who passed away in February.

MPs are expected to select a committee to draft the reply to His Majesty's opening speech, before the draft is submitted to the first day of session next week.
