Polynesian introduces fuel surcharge

7:33 am on 24 May 2004

Polynesian Airlines has put in place a fuel surcharge for all its routes, including domestic flights.

The airline said in a statement it will add a three US dollar surcharge each way on its flights between Samoa and American Samoa.

Eight US dollars each way will be added on flights where its Boeing 737 aircraft is used.

The chief executive of Polynesian, John Fitzgerald said in a statement from Apia that the airline had elected to impose a surcharge on tickets rather than to directly increase fare levels.

Mr Fitzgerald says it will more easily facilitate reduction or removal of the surcharge once fuel prices return to some level of normality.
