New flooding in Fiji's Tailevu and Nausori areas

8:35 am on 14 April 2004

There has been more flooding in Fiji's Tailevu and Nausori areas following continuous heavy rain last night.

Radio Legend report that many roads around Korovou town are under water that is up to a metre and a half deep.

Some roads in rural Nausori are also under water.

Police say the floodwaters are still rising.

500 people whose homes were swept away or severely damaged in last Thursday's flash floods are still sheltering in schools, which are being used as evacuation centres.

Many other schools in these areas will remain closed at least until the end of this week, after sustaining damage and having their books, desks and equipment washed away.
