Australia says it expects those asylum seekers who it has deemed not to be in need of protection to leave the detention centre on Nauru as soon as possible.

The Australian immigration authorities say among them are seven children.

The immigration authorities and the UNHCR have been re-assessing the refugee status applications of just over 200 Afghans, 65 of them children.

The asylum seekers have already been in Nauru for about two and a half years.
