The former Fiji prime minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, says his Fijian Political Party, the SVT, is willing to join forces with the ruling SDL to fight the next general election.

Mr Rabuka has told Radio Legend that the SVT is prepared to talk to the SDL which recently said it would try to unite the different political parties for the 2006 poll.

"There are a lot of areas where we are of like mind. I believe there are fewer areas where we differ. I'm sure we can understand that there are middle grounds in those, too. So rather than splitting on the few points where we differ we should be unifying for the many points where we think alike."
