New party eyes next Fiji election

5:12 am on 25 March 2004

A new political party is being set up in Fiji with the aim of scoring a landslide win the next election.

Radio station, Legend, says the Social, Liberal and Multi-racial Party will be launched in Suva on Friday.

Party leader Joketani Delai says they will contest all the seats in the 2006 election and are hoping for landslide victory.

He says they will focus on issues and not race.

Mr Delai, an indigenous Fijian who left Fiji after the 1987 Rabuka coups to live in Australia, has returned after 16 years because of his concern for growing poverty in his homeland.
