Cooks goverment asked to apologise

6:22 am on 24 March 2004

The head of a Cook Islands media group, George Pitt, says he wants an apology from the government after an advisor and government MP, Norman George, claimed he had no broadcasting licence.

Mr Pitt told the Cook Islands Independent that the government has generated deceit and smears over the licensing issue.

He says the corruption and lies of Mr George have been exposed by the law.

Mr George had earlier said the licence had expired.

Mr Pitt has accused of Mr George of telling lies to gag any criticism of the alleged abuse of taxpayers funds.
