Guam teacher suspended for gun on campus

2:02 pm on 19 March 2004

A primary school teacher in Guam has been placed on administrative leave after a gun was found on campus in her handbag.

Both the Education and Police Departments are conducting investigations into why the gun was at the school.

A police spokeswoman, Sgt Kim Santos, says the female teacher had lost her purse which was later found by a second teacher and the handgun discovered.

Sgt Santos says the gun was registered and the teacher was licenced to hold a concealed weapon.

However, Sgt Santos says investigations are continuing to see if any other laws were flouted.

Earlier this week, Gun Safety month was launched to encourage safe storage of weapons.
