American Senate committee confirms action against attorney-general

Counsel for American Samoa's Senate select Investigative Committee, Robert Maez, has been instructed to file a petition with the High Court to settle differences of opinion over the committee's authority.

Committee chairman, Senator Lualemaga Faoa, says the petition will involve not just the attorney general Fiti Sunia but also the Commissioner of Public Safety, Tuiteleleapaga Peseta Fue and Prison warden, Mika Kelemete.

Lualemaga says once the petition is filed the three officials will be subpoened to show cause as to why they should not be held in contempt.

The committee's action was prompted by the attoney-general advising the commissioner and the warden not to appear before the committee.
