New flour mills planned in Fiji

12:04 pm on 10 March 2004

Fiji's flour market is expected to see more competition with the construction of two new flour mills, with both mills hoping to tap into the Pacific Island market.

They will be in addition to Flour Mills of Fiji Limited which has been operated for nearly 30 years by business magnate, Hari Punja, and currently has 80-percent of the market.

One of the new mills is to be built in Lautoka by breakaway company Punja and Sons using state of the art milling machinery from Switzerland.

The other mill will be built by Mill Tech Australia and be known as Vanua Flour Mills.

Mr Hari Punja says they will be ready for a price war in flour should one take place.
