Papua New Guinea's Education Secretary Peter Baki has warned school students they face expulsion if found to be involved in activities related to satanic worship.
The warning follows complaints in the media by parents of students attending Sogeri National high School near Port Moresby.
Letters of complaint sent to both main daily newspapers highlights the parents' concerns over the school's alleged ignorance of the students' activities.
The warning also applies to the "generation system" at schools throughout PNG, which involves the passing on of names from grade 12 to grade 11 students each year.
These names may represent certain characteristics or activities and those who carry are required to live up to them.
Mr Baki has described the system as an ongoing evil that has disruptive influence in PNG schools.
He says students found to be involved in the generation system will be expelled like those involved in initiations and the production of homebrew in previous years.
