Expected Vanuatu cabinet reshuffle fails to materialise

11:40 am on 17 February 2004

Last night's expected reshuffle of the Vanuatu cabinet has so far, failed to materialise, and the demand by the junior coalition partner for a second cabinet seat, remains in limbo.

The leader of the Alliance for the Development of Vanuatu, Maxime Carlot Korman, threatened to take his nine-seat party out of the coalition if the Prime Minister, Edward Natapei, did not give his party another ministerial post.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and member of the Alliance, Moana Carcasses, suggested the second ministerial post could be that of Minister of Education, and the incumbent be appointed President of the Republic.
