Marshall Islands Minister calls on ExxonMobil to cut its wholesale fuel prices

A Marshall Islands Minister is calling on ExxonMobil to cut its wholesale fuel prices to the country.

Public Works minister, Mattlan Zackhras, wrote to the company earlier this month saying a reduction in prices was in the interests of both sides.

ExxonMobil has the exclusive contract for selling fuel to the Marshall Islands.

Over the past two years, Marshall Island officials have expressed increasing concern over the difference in fuel prices between Majuro and islands in neighbouring Federated States of Micronesia also served by ExxonMobil.

Mr Zackhras is now warning that if a solution is not found, the Marshall Islands government will have no option but to take whatever steps are necessary to resolve the problem.
