Close to one hundred Solomon Islanders from the isolated Weather Coast of Guadalcanal have travelled to Honiara to visit relatives currently on remand in Rove Prison, thanks to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The ICRC facilitated the visits by providing return transport for twelve families to travel from their home villages to Honiara.

Over a dozen men from the Weather Coast are currently on rmenad in Rove Prison, facing charges related to fighting that took place prior to the arrival of the Regional Assistance Mission, RAMSI.

The head of the ICRC mission in Solomon Islands, Kim Gordon-Bates, says the aim of the exercise was to ensure that the inmates are in contact with their families, which is part of the organisation's mandate.
