The Samoa Rugby Football Union has signed a sponsorship deal with the Dubai-based airline Emirates for the Manu Samoa 7s.

The union's chairman, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, who is also the country's prime minister, says the partnership will give renewed direction for Samoan rugby.

The sponsorship deal covers the remainder of this season as well as the 2005-2006 season.

This was made public as the Samoa squad prepared to leave for this weekend's sevens tournament in Wellington.

An Emirates spokesman, Gary Chapman, says the Samoans are committed, competitive and entertaining.
