The American Samoan government has decided to bring forward pay day for its employees because of the disruptions caused by Cyclone Heta.
The treasurer Francis Leosiolagi says most people suffered damage to their homes and belongings which they cannot replace because they are short of cash after the holidays.
Normally, the period between paychecks is two weeks but as Christmas present, the governor had released the previous paycheck a week early.
Government offices were closed last week because there was no power and water but with utilities being restored most offices will re-open tomorrow.
