A severe earthquake measuring seven point one on the Richter scale struck an area east of New Caledonia yesterday according to the Hong Kong Observatroy.
The epicentre was at sea 340 kilomtres east of Noumea
A larger earthquake, registering sevenpoint three, occurred southeast of New Caledonia's Loyalty Islands on Dec. 27.
