PNG police attack press photographer

Police in Papua New Guinea have punched a local photographer in the face and smashed his camera after he photographed police tear-gassing a market in the capital, Port Moresby.

The National newspaper says photographer Ekar Keapu took photos of a confrontation between police and vendors at one of the biggest food markets on Friday morning.

At the height of the confrontation vendors threw projectiles at police, who responded by firing tear gas into the crowd.

Mr Keapu said he stopped to take photos of the incidentbut police set upon him, ordering him not to take photos.
