Food supplies on their way to Tikopia and Anuta in the Solomons

9:53 am on 1 December 2003

Relief food supplies are now on their way to the people of Tikopia and Anuta Islands in the Solomon's Temotu province.

The two islands have been struck by two cyclones in the past eleven months.

Cyclone Gina devastated food crops in June only months after they had been replanted following the devastation caused by Cyclone Zoe last December.

An Australian navy craft carrying 64 tonnes of rice left Honiara yesterday afternoon.

It will stop in the regional capital, Lata to pick up some local food before continuing to Tikopia and Anuta.
