Fiji education ministry officials in examination leak probe

4:47 pm on 27 November 2003

Fiji education ministry officials will be the first to come under police investigation, following a scandal over the leak of examination papers this week.

The director of criminal investigations, Emosi Vunisa, has told the Daily Post that ministry officials will be the first to be investigated because that is where all examination papers originate.

Mr Vunisa says police will not interfere with the students because they are still sitting exams.

He says students allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of leaked papers will be questioned when the last of the examination papers has been completed on Monday.

Meanwhile, the ministry of education has not yet decided whether students will be required to sit for the papers in the leaked subjects all over again or their marks will be scaled.

There's strong public anger in Fiji over what has happened because both students and teachers say many are being penalised over the actions of a few.
