The head of the Catholic Church in Tonga, Bishop Sioane Foliaki, says he is hopeful the Government will change its mind over planned constitutional changes which many believes will place curbs on media freedom.
An estimated eight thousand six hundred people, led by Bishop Foliaki, marched on the Legislature yesterday as it resumed debate on the amendments.
The number of protestors was unprecedented in Tonga.
Bishop Foliaki says it clearly indicated what people want, though he says it was a very good beautiful march.
"and it was conducted in a way that was respectful and was at the same time an opportunity for the people themselves to show by their presence that they have desires to keep what we have now."
