Sacked permanent secretary in Solomons threatened to sue Government

4:31 pm on 12 September 2003

One of the eight permanent secretaries sacked from Solomon Islands Government departments this week has demanded a public apology from the Prime Minister's Office.

Warren Paia, who had been the permanent secretary to the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, and previously the head of the Foreign Affairs Department, says a statement that he failed to perform to government expectations is defamatory.

Mr Paia says he is not aware of any allegations he had failed to perform.

He says if no apology is forthcoming from the Prime Minister's Office he will sue for defamation of character and professional standing.
