Two Marshall Islanders have died this week from measles as the number of cases continues to rise in Majuro.

Ministry of Health officials say the number of suspected cases has risen to 627, but only 438 of those are confirmed as meeting the clinical definition of measles.

That represents an increase of nearly 200 confirmed cases since the end of August.

The two latest deaths involved 29 and 39 year old Marshallese who died after experiencing severe respiratory problems which public health director, Dr Kennar Briand says are the most common side effects of measles.
