The Public Service Commissioner in the Cook Islands has yet to release the latest figures setting out the number of public servants employed by the government.

Staff at the commission conducted their three monthly servey in March.

But commisioner, Maine Brown, says he cannot release the results until they have been seen by the MInister.

In December, there were nearly 1,800 public servants employed.

That figure is nearly fifty per cent above the number recommended following the financial crisis of 1996.

Figures that have been released by the Statistics Department show that the Cook Islands population continues to shrink.

The number of people living there in March was fourteen thousand...six hundred less than at the same time last year
