Police in the Cook Islands confirm they are investigating drug use among students at the country's national college.
But they are refusing to comment on the details, other than saying that the investigation involves marijuana.
Police sergeant Ken Ben says they intend to tackle the problem among students by involving other agencies like youth groups, the churches and ministry of health to educate students about the effects of drug use on the body.
The Chairman of the Tereora College Parents and Teachers Association, Gus Meyer says the committee is backing a zero tolerance policy towards drugs as it has done previously for alcohol.
However Mr Meyer says this does not mean students at the Cook Islands biggest college will be dealt with harshly.
There are over 500 students and more than 20 teahcers at Tereora College at a time when police are recording increasing numbers of drug arrests on the main island Rarotonga
