The Police Force in Samoa is to be restructured by the new police commissioner, Papali'itele Lorenese Neru.

The commissioner says he will pursue opportunities for training and professional attachments as well as use funds from AUSAID to lift standards and performance.

Papali'itele says the work on the restructuring begins this month.

"I'm working closely with my team of assistant commissioners and all other commission officers to look into areas where there is lapse of performance and those are the areas we are going to really concentrate on and strengthen as well as we are going to pull and strengthen areas in the department"

Papali'itele says they will also be working closely with the communities in order to lift the level of service.
