Foreign police likely to be integrated into Solomons force

The Solomon Islands Police Commissioner says the foreign police team due to enter the country to help restore law and order will be fully integrated with local police.

Bill Morrell says he will have an Australian assigned as his deputy and he understands the other foreign officers will be incorporated into the Solomons police.

"not exactly sure of the details but I understand that all the police officers from New Zealand, Australia and the other Pacific Islands who come in, will be fully integrated into the Royal Solomon Islands Police and that process is obviously going to take some time and it is a matter of identifying where we have got vacancies or where we need some extra effort, for instance, in professional standards or criminal investigation, close protection perhaps, arms support - those sorts of areas"
